Pootling around the annual drudgery that is Christmas shopping (it’s not like this on the TV ad’s is it) I happened to be passing Java Joe today it seemed the perfect opportunity to cast my reviewist eye over this establishment.
Situated directly opposite a large police station at Dudley Hill roundabout, if you fancy chancing running off without paying…..I’d think thrice let alone twice.
Until recently Java Joe held the converted accolade of the Yorkshire Coffee Reviewist’s favourite flat white. (ask me nicely and I may tell you via DM) They are very well balanced and smooth. The young, friendly and engaging staff know their trade well. We also ordered a peppermint hot chocolate and that was superb. Food is a selection of hot and cold prepackaged sandwiches mainly. A decent selection of sweet treats and my salted caramel brownie was fine.
It’s a light, airy and spacious venue with two nice booths at the back. If one is free, definitely bag it! The majority of the seating is reminiscent of a nice workplace restaurant. It makes total sense if you ask me given the location and I like it. As daft as it sounds it kind of breaks the formula of a coffee shops décor. It’s quite relaxing in the midst of the hustle and bustle.
Great to see Java Joe use a Yorkshire coffee roaster as their house blend, Maude Coffee. I’ve not tested this roaster at home yet in my Moka Pot however it definitely makes a tasty and not overpowering flat white.
Two words jump out at me….Drive Thru. The spot is situated in the midst of busy transport links and having a indie coffee place to hit up before or after the M62 and thus avoid the copy and paste formula of “cosbucks” (see what I did there) is spot on. Being able to drive thru is an absolute bonus. They open early.There is a car park. Perfecto.
Opening hours are 6am to 8pm Monday to Friday, 7am to 8pm Saturday and 8am to 6pm Sunday. Location: BD4 8RH. I like it.
